Lerone Murphy picked up a serious injury during his UFC London main event.

The UFC was back in London this past Saturday, with Murphy and Movsar Evloev topping the bill.

There was plenty on the line in the UFC London main event, with talk that a win could put either man next in line to face Alexander Volkanovski for the belt.

Evloev went on to give ‘The Miracle’ his first career defeat, taking a majority decision victory in what many thought would be a low-key affair.

The decision left plenty of fans frustrated, with most feeling Murphy should have edged it, especially after Evloev had a point taken away in the fourth.

It was also around that time that the British fighter noticeably slowed down, later revealing he’d been dealing with a hip injury.

In the middle of the round, Murphy reached for his hip and never looked fully comfortable again.

And between rounds four and five, he told his corner that his hip had popped.

Still, he pushed through the pain to try and make an impact in the final round, but Evloev did just enough over the last ten minutes to secure the win on two of the three scorecards.

A few days after suffering his first professional defeat, Murphy revealed he tore his hip flexor during that crucial round.

“Tore my hip flexor in round 4. Be back in no time,” Murphy said on Instagram while receiving treatment for what could be a three-month layoff.

He’s already eyeing a return against former title challenger Diego Lopes, who was critical of Murphy’s performance against Evloev. And despite how close it was and all debate surrounding it, Murphy has stayed calm about how things played out at UFC London.
