The Frenchman is said to be interesting Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports in France are suggesting that a former Premier League favourite could be on his way to England this summer – for absolutely nothing.
L’Equipe is reporting that former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra could be leaving Marseille this summer . and it has been suggested he remains a top target for Premier League title challengers Tottenham Hotspur.
It was previously thought that Diarra would be quite an expensive signature. He only joined current club Marseille last summer after a lengthy contract dispute with former club Lokomotiv Moscow saw him eventually become a free agent.
He is contracted until 2019 at the club but L’Equipe report that Diarra could be allowed to leave the club on a free this summer, if a bigger club comes in for his signature – as stipulated in a clause in his contract. Considering Marseille’s poor placing in the Ligue 1 table, it would be hard to argue that Tottenham did not meet this criterion.
However, the report states that it is Paris Saint-Germain who are the favourites to sign him. PSG need a new midfield option and Diarra fits the bill.
Tottenham’s interest would appear strange. The club are building a team based on young talent and Diarra, at 31, would not fit into this philosophy.
