West Bromwich Albion may be set to snap up Bakary Sako after all.
According to L’Equipe, free agent Bakary Sako is set to sign a one-year contract with West Bromwich Albion amid recent concerns the deal would fall through.
The Baggies sit top of the Championship table having really hit their stride under Darren Moore, with both Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle continuing their stunning form with goals in the 3-2 win over Preston North End on Saturday.
Whilst Harvey Barnes and Matt Phillips have also impressed this season, Moore has been keen to bring in another wide man who can also play up front, with Sako a recent target.
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Sako, who left Crystal Palace on a free transfer this summer, has been training with West Brom of late, but The Express and Star noted concerns about his wages just days ago.
Some have been left worried that a deal will fall through, but leading French newspaper L’Equipe report today that Sako is about to sign a one-year deal with the Baggies.
It’s claimed that French clubs had been keen on Sako, but he has seemingly chosen to stick in England and return to the West Midlands, handing a boost to West Brom’s promotion push as they big to re-join Wolves in the top flight.
Sako, 30, hit eight goals in 50 games for Palace following a 2015 move from Wolves, where he scored 38 times in 124 games having made a switch from French side Saint-Etienne in 2012.
The Mali international has been without a club for a few months now, and given his Championship experience and his pace down the flanks, Sako should be a superb free agent signing for West Brom if L’Equipe are right about the deal being imminent.
