Martin Keown has raved about reported Tottenham Hotspur target Leonardo Spinazzola on BBC One (9:28pm, July 2, 2021).

The Arsenal legend has said that he has been impressed by the Italy international left-back, linked with a move to Nuno’s Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham and Real Madrid interest

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported on his website this week that Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing Spinazzola from AS Roma in the summer transfer window.

The Express reported last month that Tottenham are interested in Spinazzola.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

What Martin Keown said

Keown said about Spinazzola on BBC One (9:28pm, July 2, 2021): “I have really enjoyed watching him play. He has been quite magnificent.

“You look at left-backs, he’s a right-footed left-back. It is unconventional. You don’t often see it.”

Transfer in doubt now

Keown made the aforementioned comments about Spinazzola while watching him in action for Italy against Belgium in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 on Friday evening.

The 28-year-old left-back, who is actually right-footed, suffered an Achilles injury in the 80th minute, as Italy won 2-1.

The Roma star was taken off the pitch in stretchers and in tears, and there are suggestions that the left-back could be on the sidelines for months.

If true, then this surely means that a transfer to Tottenham or Madrid will not happen now.

Spurs and Madrid are unlikely to sign a player who is injured and who could take a while to get back to full fitness.
