The former Everton midfielder and England international would be perfect for Rangers boss Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side.

Rangers have recently been embroiled in something of a storm involving their central midfielder Joey Barton.

The controversial figure found himself suspended by Mark Warburton for three weeks after a training ground altercation with Andy Halliday.

The midfielder, who had been struggling for his best form in Glasgow, now sees his long-term future at Ibrox in serious doubt.

Barton, who was in the Championship team of the year with Burnley last term, could however easily be replaced at Rangers.

Leon Osman would be a perfect example to improve Warburton’s side.

The 35-year-old former Everton player brings all the attributes that Barton does, at a superior level, and without the same off-field issues that blight Barton wherever he seems to go.

Osman was released by Everton this summer after 19 years at the club. He has two caps for the England national team and would certainly fit into Warburton’s style of play in the heart of Rangers’ midfield.

If Rangers are to move on from Barton, then the free transfer acquisition of the former Everton player would be a shrewd piece of business from the Glasgow side.
