Everton legend Leon Osman has told the club’s official website that he believes January recruit Theo Walcott is an “incredible coup” and brings the best out of trio Tom Davies, Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The 28-year-old was signed by Sam Allardyce in the January transfer window for a fee believed to be around £20million from Arsenal, after the England international had fallen out of favour under Arsene Wenger.

In five Premier League appearances for Everton, the former Southampton attacker has scored two goals in the form of a brace against Leicester City as well as laying on an assist on his debut for the Toffees against West Bromwich Albion.

Osman believes Walcott brings the best out of the aforementioned trio because of his speed, which is able to unlock defences.

“Theo has had a great start to his Everton career and he brings an awful lot to the team,” Osman said. “He provides a huge threat in behind the opposition and that suddenly gives them something different to think about.

“If he is going to be running behind they have to drop off, which gives Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies a bit more room to play in. Those pockets are difficult to get in but those three players are finding more space now.

“Any signing gives the team a lift – but one of the calibre of Theo Walcott? It is an incredible coup for the Club.”

The Toffees are proving rather inconsistent in the Premier League at the moment, picking up seven points from their last five Premier League outings that has included two wins, two losses and a draw.

Walcott is expected to start on the wing once again for Everton on Saturday as the Blues travel to Lancashire to face Sean Dyche’s Burnley in what is a crucial game in the race to finish in the final European slot.
