Rooney has already been tipped to follow Steven Gerrard to Rangers, as the new boss begins his Ibrox overhaul.

Leon Osman’s comments on Wayne Rooney’s future may be of interest to Celtic and Rangers supporters.
Rooney – who, by his own admission, has followed Celtic since childhood and whose best mate, Steven Gerrard, is the new manager of Rangers – is being tipped to leave Everton in the summer transfer window.
And while MLS outfit DC United are the side most strongly linked with the 32-year-old, Osman has claimed that Rooney – with whom he played for four years at Everton – could could still head north of the border.

Discussing his former teammate’s next destination on Talksport earlier, the 37-year-old said: “I just think maybe Wayne has decided that the time has come to move and play across the water in America – or maybe even up in Scotland! I would love Wayne to stay at the club, but who knows.”
A move to Celtic would perhaps make the most sense from a financial point of view, although it could be argued that, out of the Bhoys and Rangers, it is the Gers who are in greater need of Rooney’ services.

According to the papers, Gerrard is not lacking in ambition ahead of his first transfer window at Ibrox.
The former Liverpool captain has already been linked with moves for a number of high profile ex-teammates, including Martin Skrtel, Lucas Leiva and Jermain Defoe.
