Leon Osman says West Ham fans must relax expectations over style of play.

David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on May 16, 2017 in London, England.

David Moyes has been appointed as West Ham manager, less than 24 hours after Slaven Bilic was sacked.

Former Everton star Leon Osman has told The Mail that he believes Moyes is an excellent appointment.

Osman played under Moyes and feels West Ham will succeed under him, if the fans give him a chance.

The Scotsman is not known for his teams playing an attacking style of play and has more of a dour reputation.

West Ham supporters turned on Sam Allardyce over his long ball tactics, and Osman believes fans must sacrifice their ideals for Moyes’ pragmatism, warning it will not be pretty early on.

He said: “The first thing he will do is give West Ham’s team serious organisation and I don’t think it will be pretty early on. It will, though, be effective and he’ll be planning to make this a success.

“I’ve read and listened to the criticisms made of David Moyes in the past 48 hours but I don’t recognise the man they are talking about. The man I know is a top operator well capable of thriving at the London Stadium.”

Moyes is motivated to restore his reputation after his spell at Sunderland quickly became a total disaster.

The Black Cats’ problems now show that job was a poisoned chalice but Moyes did little to help their predicament, with the Wearsiders relegated and now in the Championship relegation zone.

At West Ham his priority is to get the club climbing up the Premier League table, currently they are in a lowly 18th place.
