BBC Sport pundit Leon Osman says West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans would be a good signing for Manchester City.

Former Everton player and now BBC Pundit, Leon Osman, says that West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans would be a good signing for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola has spent big on two full-backs – Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker – and he wants to sign a centre-back before the transfer window closes.

According to reports from The Times, Manchester City are keen to sign West Brom defender Evans, and have had a £18 million bid rejected already.

The 29-year-old is a key player for West Brom, and the Baggies reportedly value him at £30 million. Although West Brom are keen to keep him with them, Tony Pulis has insisted that they could be interested in doing business provided the offer is right.

Osman believes that Manchester City would be a “great move” for the former Manchester United defender. He says that City want a “reliable” defender who will be fit if Vincent Kompany gets injured.

“Manchester City would be a great move for Jonny Evans,” said Osman to BBC Sport Football Focus (live blog; 14:36 pm)

“There is a bit of Man United and Man City rivalry there but I see the point in what City are doing. They want someone reliable and someone who will be fit of Vincent Kompany gets injured.”

Manchester City have Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi, and John Stones as the three main centre-backs in their ranks, and it won’t be easy for Evans to start week in week out.

Meanwhile, West Brom are close to completing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer, and are reportedly interested in Liverpool’s outcast Mamadou Sakho.

The Baggies have made a flying start to their 2017/18 Premier League campaign, winning 0-1 against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, making it two wins in a row.
