Leon Osman believes Everton should consider looking at David Moyes or David Unsworth as they look to get themselves out of trouble in the Premier League.

David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland looks on during the Premier League match between Sunderland and Swansea City at Stadium of Light on May 13, 2017 in Sunderland, England.

Leon Osman has told Sky Sports News (broadcast on 23rd October 2017 at 1:45 pm) that David Moyes would do a good job if he was brought back to Everton to replace Ronald Koeman, and that David Unsworth should also be considered for the role.

The Toffees decided on Monday to part company with Ronald Koeman after their hugely disappointing start to the season. The Merseyside outfit currently find themselves in the Premier League’s bottom three, having not won for a month and having only collected three points in the top flight on two occasions so far.

Ronald Koeman, Manager of Everton looks on prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Arsenal at Goodison Park on October 22, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

The 5-2 defeat at home to Arsenal appears to have been the final straw for the Everton board, and they are now searching for their next manager.

One name recently linked with the role by the Daily Mirror was former boss David Moyes, who spent more than a decade at Goodison Park before his hugely unsuccessful spell at Manchester United. And Osman has backed the 54-year-old to do well if he is given the chance to return, while he also suggested that under-23 boss Unsworth should also be in the frame.

David Unsworth, Manager of Everton during the EFL Checkatrade Trophy match between Cheltenham Town and Everton at Whaddon Road on October 4, 2016 in Cheltenham, England.

“I think he would be able to do a good job immediately. He knows the club inside and out. Whether he would be a long-term candidate, I don’t know what the chairman’s looking for,” he told Sky Sports News (broadcast on 23rd October 2017 at 1:45 pm) when asked whether Moyes would be a good appointment.

“Are they looking at someone who can get immediate results, someone who has got a real pedigree with winning trophies, or are they looking to bring someone like David Unsworth up from the academy who really knows the club and bring the young lads through and really inspire an Everton cause?”

“It’s really interesting to think what Mr Moshiri and the chairman Bill Kenwright are thinking right now.”

With the cluster of exciting youngsters coming through at Everton currently, it would not be a surprise to see some of the Toffees fans wanting to see Unsworth given a chance. And while Moyes’ stock has significantly fallen since his excellent spell at Goodison Park, the chance to return and finish what he started may perhaps seem a match made in heaven for some fans.
