Leon Osman has admitted to the Liverpool Echo that he had doubts over Bernard signing for Everton, but the Brazilian has ended them now.

Bernard was brought to Everton on a free transfer over the summer, and he already looks to have been one of the best value for money additions in the Premier League.

The diminutive playmaker has forced his way into Marco Silva’s starting line-up, with his range of passing and dribbling skill impressing.

And Osman admits that he has been very impressed by Bernard’s performances so far.

“We weren’t sure what Bernard would offer but he has shown he is just the type of player we need,” Osman said.

“A guy to come in off the left with guile, trickey, an eye for a pass. He can drop his shoulder and is a real link between the midfield and attack.

“We’ve tried to play number tens and wingers out there, and it hasn’t given us the right balance. Since Bernard has come in, he has been that left-sided player we’ve lacked since Steven Pienaar moved on.”

Bernard certainly seems to have added threat to Everton’s attack, which is starting to click into gear now.

Everton won 3-1 against Brighton & Hove Albion at Goodison Park at the weekend, in arguably their finest home performance of the season.

Marco Silva’s side have now moved up to ninth in the Premier League table, and they are starting to put pressure on the sides above them to keep winning.
