The midfielder left Everton in the summer after nearly two decades with the club.
Leon Osman confirmed to The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show broadcast on talkSPORT on November 10th that he found out through a friend that he had been released by Everton in the summer.
The midfielder joined the Toffees as a youngster and – barring two loan spells – spent the entirety of his professional career to date at Goodison Park before departing at the end of last season after 19 years of service.

But Osman hinted that the excellent service counted for little when it came to how his release was handled by the Merseyside club.
“A friend phoned up to say they couldn’t believe what happened and [I] checked on the website and it said I’d been released and that was how I found out,” he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT.

Despite the disappointing circumstances surrounding his departure, he also added that he has since been back in contact with the Everton hierarchy.
“A couple of weeks ago I had a conversation with the chairman. He phoned me up to wish me all the best and we had a nice conversation which was a lot better,” he added.

The way the situation appears to have been handled is extremely disappointing given Osman’s tremendous contribution to the Toffees.
His consistency throughout his career means that it is difficult to pick out a particularly underwhelming performance from any of the 352 games he featured in in the Premier League, even after he reached the twilight of his career.
