Ademola Lookman has been linked with a big-money move away from Everton this summer.
Leon Osman has backed Everton to sell Ademola Lookman this summer by stating that his signing hasn’t worked and to potentially double their money on him is a ‘good piece of business’.
BBC Sport have reported that Everton are close to securing the big-money transfer of Lookman by selling him to German side RB Leipzig for £22.5 million.
The 21-year-old joined Everton from then-League One side Charlton in 2017, but since his move to Goodison Park, he has only made 48 appearances for the Merseyside club [transfermarkt].
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (16/07/2019), Osman explained why his former club are making the right choice in parting ways with the winger.
“He certainly does [have a lot of talent],” Osman told BBC Radio 5 Live. “The issue is that sometimes you go into a club and things just click, you are able to showcase your talent, things fall into place and you are the player everyone expects.
“Unfortunately, he’s not been able to find a role in the team when he has, he hasn’t been able to perform at the standards expected. To be able to double your money on him, and pretty much for the exact same price bring in Andre Gomes that is pretty much player for player, I think it’s a great piece of business and to get Delph pretty cheap as well.”
Marco Silva needs more attacking quality at the club and the decision to sell Lookman might not sit well with some supporters at the club.
Whilst Lookman hasn’t been able to make his mark on Merseyside, he perhaps hasn’t been given a proper run of games to prove his worth.
When he was given those run of games, that was on-loan at RB Leipzig for a six-month period, and with them seemingly going back in form, that itself tells you a lot.
