Everton are interested in signing Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

What’s the story?

It is being reported by The Athletic that Bailey is on the list of players Everton want to sign this summer.

The Toffees have extensively scouted and assessed the 23-year-old winger for the past two years.

The youngster is on Everton’s shortlist again this summer.

Turning down Liverpool

Everton and Liverpool are Merseyside rivals, and the Toffees’ fans will be interested to know that the winger actually turned down a move to the Reds when he was younger.

Back in November 2018, the Jamaica international told FourFourTwo that Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool wanted to him from Genk, but he decided to move to Bayer instead in January 2017.

Bailey told FourFourTwo in November 2018: “Manchester United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool – a lot of clubs were interested.”

Would Leon Bailey make Everton better?

Bailey is very highly rated, with former Ajax and Barcelona star Ronald de Boer saying that he is “exceptional” and “has no weak points”, as quoted on talkSPORT in March 2020.

The 23-year-old has established himself as an important player for Bayer over the years.

That Everton have done their research on the winger for the past two years shows that they know what they will get from him.

The winger scored nine goals and gave eight assists in the Bundesliga and scored five goals and gave two assists in the Europa League last season.
