Neil Lennon has confirmed that he will be bringing Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic back into the fold after his botched move away from Glasgow.
With the Hoops signing David Turnbull over the past two weeks, it looked certain that the Australia international would be leaving Scotland.
Celtic accepted a £3.5 million bid from a Qatar-based club in August [The Record] but a failure to agree personal terms meant that Rogic was thought to be sticking around a while longer.
And Lennon, speaking to a pre-match press conference on YouTube, has revealed that he’ll be bringing the 27-year-old back into his plans, admitting that he could make his return within a week.
The Celtic boss, whose side visit St Mirren tonight, said: “Tom Rogic is back training. He hasn’t trained a lot or played a lot so he won’t be available [tonight].
“Absolutely [he is a Celtic player]. I’m a big fan. He has had a knee problem and an ankle problem but he’s shaken them all off and he just needs a bit more training and we’ll get him some game time in the next week or so.”
This is brilliant news.
Yes, Celtic missed out on a £3.5 million figure, but nobody’s going to give a hoot about that come May if Rogic plays a big role in helping Lennon’s side to 10 Premiership titles in a row, which he might.
We’re talking about a massive player during Brendan Rodgers’s two-and-a-half years in charge at Parkhead and when fit, Rogic can and probably will have a brilliant season, especially with the added competition from the likes of Turnbull.
