Neil Lennon has stressed that Celtic wouldn’t be giving up their chase of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, but did admit that it ‘may be beyond us’.

This season has been an absolute damp squib for the Hoops.

Before a ball was kicked, this campaign was supposed to be the one that saw Celtic record a historic 10 Premiership titles in a row, but Rangers have had other ideas.

Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side are a whopping 18 points clear of the Bhoys and need only four more victories to ensure that the trophy is returning to the blue half of the Old Firm divide for the first time since 2011.

Celtic have been erratic all season but it must be said that the Gers haven’t lost a single league game yet, winning 25 and drawing four.

And Lennon has intimated that catching Rangers might just be a bridge too far for the Parkhead outfit.

He told The Scottish Sun: “We could and should have performed better. That’s on me, my staff and the football department. The ten was the Holy Grail really, and it may be beyond us. But we won’t give it up just yet.”

It’s worth noting that Celtic do have a game in hand but, even if they win, the gap remains 15 points and if Rangers haven’t lost a single league game all season, they’re not going to suddenly lose five.

If you told Rangers fans before the season started that Lennon would effectively be conceding the title by February, they’d have pinched themselves.

This is very much a double-whammy for the light Blues’ faithful because not only are their Glasgow rivals all at sea on and off the field right now, but Gerrard’s troops are absolutely flying and the supporters will love Lennon’s comments here.
