Mario Lemina is concentrating on helping Southampton stay in the Premier League but could he have one eye on a potential Liverpool transfer?

Mario Lemina says he is completely focused on helping to keep Southampton in the Premier League despite speculation about the midfielder’s future.

The Saints are currently in the relegation zone and one point from safety with three matches remaining this season and Lemina is not thinking about anything else.

“The club have given me everything to perform and I need to give back with all my heart to win the last three games,” the Gabon international told the Daily Echo.

“When you join a team I don’t think you can expect to try to fight to save yourself.

“We don’t talk about ourselves, we talk about the club and we just have to save the club.

“After everyone can make a decision to stay or leave. This is not my problem, my only problem is to win the last few games and save the team. We have to save the club because it deserves to stay in the Premier League.”

Where could Lemina go?

Well as French publication L’Equipe reported at the start of March, Liverpool are the club seemingly showing the greatest interest in the 24-year-old.

The Reds have a long recent history of signing players from St Mary’s, with the January purchase of Virgil van Dijk the sixth player to make the move since June 2014.

There should not be any concerns about signing someone from a relegated team either, with Georginio Wijnaldum having impressed at Anfield since joining from Newcastle United when they dropped into the Championship in 2016.

Lemina may not be thinking about anything else currently, but surely a switch to work under Jurgen Klopp in a side that has just progressed to the Champions League final would be hugely tempting.
