Former Wales and Swansea wing wizard Leighton James says that Everton’s £40 million offer for Gylfi Sigurdsson is “not enough”.
The Toffees have been linked with a move for the Swansea star, but have shown reluctance to meet the Welsh club’s £50 million asking price for the player.
The Iceland playmaker, who has 50 international caps under his belt, enjoyed a great 2016/17 campaign, where he scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists.

Everton have had a £40 million offer rejected, reported by The Telegraph, and James says the Merseyside club should meet Swansea’s demands, considering they’ve sold their best player Romelu Lukaku at 75 million.
He has cited Kyle Walker’s example who joined Manchester City from Tottenham Hotspur for a reported fee of £50 million, bringing to his attention the going rate for top players in the market.
James adds that he wants Sigurdsson to stay put, but in case he leaves, the key for Swansea will be to re-invest all the money they get for him.
“Everything in the current market is underpinned by supply and demand – and that’s why Everton’s £40m is not enough”, said James as quoted by The Daily Star.
“They have sold Romelu Lukaku for £75m. They now need to replace his goals. Why should they not pay what Swansea ask?”
