Leigh Griffiths is fit and firing for Celtic once again.
Celtic hitman Leigh Griffiths has told The Scottish Sun that he’s worth more than the £6 million that Neil Lennon claimed he was worth.
Lennon said earlier this month that having Griffiths back was the equivalent of having a £6 million new signing.
The Celtic marksman suffered a serious bout of depression last season and still hasn’t kicked a ball for the Hoops in a competitive game since December.
Griffiths, who scored 40 times during the 2015-16 campaign, found the net in a pre-season friendly earlier this week.
And it looks like the 28-year-old has also rediscovered his confidence, joking that it would be ‘cheap’ if Lennon – who brought him to Glasgow in 2014 – sold him for only £6 million.
He told The Scottish Sun: “The gaffer says I’ll be like a new £6m signing — aye and the rest! That’s cheap!
“He brought me to the club and he knows what I can do. He’ll be just as happy as me to get back. It was brilliant to get out there on Wednesday night. The manager said to me before the game, ‘This is a fresh start for you, so go and enjoy it. There is no pressure, just get back out doing what you do best.’
“It has been a long time coming. I want to get back to the form of a few seasons ago.”
Griffiths, on form, might be the best striker in Scottish football. Even Odsonne Edouard, who cost the Bhoys a club-record £9 million last summer, can’t get near him if the Scot is fit and firing.
As noted, this is a player who scored 40 times in a single season during Ronny Deila’s last year in charge, and if Lennon can get him back to his best then it’s ominous for Edouard and other strikers at Lennoxtown.
