Liverpool once had a devastating strike partnership under Brendan Rodgers – will a similar axis happen at Celtic?
Quoted by The Glasgow Evening Times, Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has joked that he cannot dance like Daniel Sturridge but is more than happy to be his equivalent in Liverpool’s former SAS-styled attack under Brendan Rodgers.
The Hoops might well be forced to switch up their system to accomodate the arrival of young French striker Moussa Dembele, who joined from Fulham on Tuesday.
By virtue of the fact he netted 40 times last season, Griffiths can’t possibly be dropped as Rodgers looks poised to go with more than one striker next term, with the 26-year-old and Dembele potentially being the spearheads.
Under Rodgers, Liverpool almost won the title in 2014 as Sturridge and Luis Suarez formed a devastating partnership which yielded 52 Premier League goals between them, with winger Raheem Sterling chipping in with another nine.
Sturridge has earned a reputation for dancing in celebration to some of his goals in recent years, but Celtic hitman Griffiths admits that Rodgers is in for a shock if he expects him to be exactly like the England striker.
“What one would I be? Suarez, Sturridge or Sterling? I’ll let people work that one out for themselves. I can’t dance anyway. My moves are a bit stiff,” he said via The Glasgow Evening Times.
“But that Liverpool front three was special. It worked really well and they had a good understanding.”
