Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths scored in the Glasgow side’s most recent match against Inverness.
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has told the Herald Scotland that he hopes Brendan Rodgers keeps faith with him.
Griffiths was handed a rare start for Celtic last weekend against Inverness, and he hit the back of the net, as the Bhoys cruised to a 3-0 victory.
However, Griffiths does not feel that he played very well last Saturday, and he admits that he now is reliant on Brendan Rodgers sticking by him.
“I didn’t play the best against Inverness but I got the goal. I’d hope it might be enough to keep me in but if not then I wish whoever is playing well and wait for my time to come again,” Griffiths said.
“I am confident whether I start or come off the bench that I am going to score. It is just about getting opportunities at the right time and trying to finish them. I don’t have anything in my head about what I want to hit in terms of goals this season.”
Griffiths scored 40 goals for Celtic last season, but the arrival of Moussa Dembele has put his place in Rodgers starting line-up in doubt.
Griffiths has regularly been used as an impact substitute recently, with Dembele leading the line.
Rodgers has opted not to utilise two strikers for most of his time in charge of Celtic so far, but Griffiths believes that he could form a good partnership with Dembele in the future.
“If we get the chance to play regularly I think we could get a decent partnership but that is obviously down to the manager and what he thinks,” the former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker said.
Griffiths is currently with the Scotland squad, who are preparing to face England in Friday evening.
Griffiths appears to have a chance to starting at Wembley, but he is in competition with the likes of Steven Fletcher and Chris Martin.
