Celtic should sign more players from the Scottish Premiership, suggests Leigh Griffiths.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has suggested to The Daily Record that the club should sign Scottish players.

The Glasgow giants recently secured the services of 29-year-old winger Jonny Hayes from Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen.

Griffiths, who is 26 years of age and is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership, has suggested that Celtic should sign more players from within Scotland itself.

“The thing is, Celtic are renowned for going in and spending big money on players but you can find hidden gems from the Scottish game,” Griffiths told The Daily Record.

“It’s not just me. Stuarty is a prime example. He came in and last season he wasn’t even in some of the 18-man squads but he went away and worked hard on the training ground and is reaping the reward.

“He will crack on this season and get even better and it is something that people have got to look at – we can sign players from Scottish clubs and they can make a name for themselves here.”

Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and have some of the best players in the country in their squad.

Brendan Rodgers’s side won the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup last season, as well as reached the group stage of the Champions League.

The Bhoys will be favourites to win the league title during the 2017-18 campaign, as well as clinch the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup.

Celtic do still need to sign players in the summer transfer window in order to make it through to the group stage of the Champions League yet again in 2017-18.
