The Celtic marksman has played second fiddle to Moussa Dembele.
Celtic hitman Leigh Griffiths has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he still needs to improve.
The Scot is in fine form for the Hoops and has netted in each of his last three games to put team-mate and striking rival Moussa Dembele under pressure for the number nine shirt.
Griffiths, who netted 40 times for Celtic last season, has played second fiddle to the French summer signing for most of the season, with Dembele boasting 17 goals in all competitions following his £500,000 switch from Fulham.
But the 20-year-old has not scored in any of his last five games for the Bhoys and Griffiths appears to have usurped him for the moment.
Nevertheless, the 25-year-old believes it is not only about how many goals he can score, insisting that he is hoping to develop other facets of his game in a bid to become a more well-rounded centre-forward.
“My performances need to improve a wee bit. It is not just about scoring goals, there are other things that the manager is looking for too and I want to try and bring them into my game as well,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times.
“That can be difficult sometimes when you are playing against teams with a lot of men behind the ball but so long as I am scoring goals and working hard I think that I have a good chance of keeping my place in the team.
“But, like I say, there are other things that I think I can work on and improve and I am determined to do that. No-one wants to be on the bench and having got back in, I want to stay in.”
Celtic, 11 points clear of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership, go to Ibrox on December 31 and who Brendan Rodgers chooses to lead the line that day should indicate who the Northern Irishman feels his best striker is.
Dembele perhaps has the advantage, considering he has scored four in his last two meetings with the Gers – including a hat-trick when both sides met at Parkhead in September.
