Leigh Griffiths hails Celtic team-mate Craig Gordon.
Speaking to STV, Celtic hitman Leigh Griffiths has paid tribute to the phenomenal Craig Gordon.
The Scottish goalkeeper pulled off a couple of decent saves at Parkhead last night as Celtic lost 2-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach.
That being said, both goals did come from mistakes and defender Kolo Toure was particularly culpable on both accounts.
The 33-year-old, who joined the Hoops in 2014, struggled for minutes earlier in the season under new manager Brendan Rodgers, who regularly played Dorus De Vries after bringing him in from Nottingham Forest in the summer.
But Gordon appears to be Rodgers’s number one now and Griffiths cannot speak highly enough about the Sunderland man.
He told STV: “I’ve said it before since Craigy walked in the door he’s been phenomenal,” he said.
“In my opinion he should be Scotland’s number one. Again, it’s not my decision but he keeps proving himself time and again for Celtic.
“His save from the boy in the first half from his snapshot was world-class, so going on tonight’s performance he shouldn’t be too hard on himself. We’ve got a massive game on Sunday, hopefully he keeps a clean sheet and we get into that final.”
Celtic now turn their attentions toward the Scottish League Cup semi-final with Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Rodgers would be wise to keep Gordon between the sticks for this one.
His Dutch team-mate is unlikely to be brimming with confidence after losing the number one shirt so early in his Celtic career, and you would worry about how he handles such a huge occassion at the moment.
