Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata was in action for Belgium on Monday.

Not many Celtic fans would have expected Dedryck Boyata to be part of the Belgium squad for the World Cup, and few would have anticipated the defender to start alongside Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in their opening match against Panama.
However, injury to Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany gave Boyata the chance to feature in Belgium’s opening Group G fixture against Panama on Monday afternoon.
The 27-year-old defender started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as Roberto Martinez’s side won 3-0.

The former Manchester City centre-back did well for the Red Devils, although one football fan who was following the match was a bit critical of Boyata on social networking site Twitter.
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has responded to his tweet and has defended Boyata, pointing out that the Belgium international – who cost the Glasgow giants £1.5 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Manchester City in the summer of 2015, according to BBC Sport – has won the domestic treble in Scotland two seasons in a row.
