The Foxes host the Hornets on Saturday, with the Premier League’s top two goal scorers going head-to-head.
This season has so far been one of surprises in the Premier League, with some unlikely faces topping the goalscoring charts.
Leading them so far is Jamie Vardy, with the Leicester City striker currently sitting on 11 goals and chasing the record of scoring in nine consecutive games.
Behind him is Watford’s Ighalo, who has carried his fine goalscoring form from the Championship into the Premier League to help the Hornets sit in a very respectable 11th place.
But which striker has been the best so far? We decided to take a look at the stats to find out.
| Season | Goals | Total Scoring Att GAME | Ontarget Scoring Att GAME | Big Chance Scored GAME | Touches GAME | Unsuccessful Touch GAME | Total Contest GAME | Won Contest GAME | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jamie Vardy | 2015-2016 | 11 | 4 | 1.8 | 0.6 | 34.3 | 1.8 | 2.5 | 1 | 11 |
| Odion Ighalo | 2015-2016 | 7 | 3.1 | 1.1 | 0.2 | 35.1 | 1.9 | 2.4 | 1.1 | 11 |
And it’s Vardy who leads the way, managing to come out on top in five of the six key attacking areas we looked at.
The Foxes forward has managed to top Ighalo when it comes to total scoring attempts, on target scoring attempts and big chances scored.
He has also attempted more dribbles, as well as taking fewer unsuccessful touches than Ighalo per game so far.
It’s not all bad news for the Watford man, however, as he manages to beat Vardy in one area, having enjoyed more touches per game than his counterpart.
A clear win for Vardy then, who has enjoyed a superb start to the season. Leicester fans will be hoping that run continues when they take on Watford this weekend.
