Tottenham Hotspur should consider a move for the Leicester City centre-back.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

Mauricio Pochettino has a lot of issues to address at Tottenham when his players return from international duty this summer, but arguably the most important task of all will be sorting out Toby Alderweireld’s future.

The Belgium international has been heavily linked with an exit from Spurs this summer, with Manchester United thought to be leading the race for his signature.

If Pochettino does decide to sanction the 29-year-old’s exit from White Hart Lane, he will obviously have to bring in an able-bodied replacement, and an interesting option for them could be Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.

The 25-year-old joined the Foxes from Hull City in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £17 million, and he has impressed so much that he is now considered to be a first-team regular for Gareth Southgate’s England side.

Maguire is a big and strong, old-fashioned centre-half, and he would be more than capable of filling any void left behind by Alderweireld.

He has come on leaps and bounds over the past two years, and he is now considered to be one of the Premier League’s finest central defenders.

According to the Daily Star, Maguire could be available for around £50 million this summer, and although that seems like a rather extortionate amount of money, should Tottenham sell Alderweireld for somewhere in the region of £60-70 million, it would actually be shrewd business from Spurs.

The former Hull City man is strong in the air, quick along the ground, and is comfortable when in possession – all qualities that will appeal to Poch.

SkyBET list the Lilywhites as 3/1 favourites in the race to sign the Leicester ace, and if they do manage to sign him this summer, he could turn out to be a fantastic addition for the north London outfit.
