Everton would be better off signing Demarai Gray from Leicester rather than Arsenal’s Theo Walcott.

Everton are among the Premier League’s biggest spenders so far this summer, but are not preparing to stop the incomings any time soon.

According to the Mirror, Theo Walcott has emerged as one of their latest targets, with the Toffees prepared to pay £30m for the Arsenal forward.

However, the Telegraph have also linked them with Leicester City starlet Demarai Gray and while a £22m buyout clause in the 21-year-old’s contract is said to be a stumbling block, it would be a far better outlay than paying £8m more for Walcott.

Gray is said to have grown frustrated with a lack of game time with the Foxes – as reported by the Leicester Mercury – but manager Craig Shakespeare has since ensured him that will change next season.

Yet a move to Goodison Park and playing Europa League football would surely tempt the England Under-21 international, especially when Ronald Koeman already has a good track record of placing faith in youngsters; as shown by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies and Mason Holgate in 2016/17.

Walcott may be the far more established figure, with 383 appearances for the Gunners and 47 caps for England, but the 28-year-old is not the exciting and progressive signing that the Merseyside club need at this point in time. Especially not for £30m.
