According to a report by German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, Leicester City are keen on signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, who will not be handed a contract extension offer.
The German international could come in as a replacement for Youri Tielemans, considering how similar both are in terms of their profiles, with the latter ‘expected to leave’ on a free transfer in the summer.
While there were understandable worries about how Leicester would go about to replace Tielemans, Sebastian Kehl’s update regarding Mahmoud Dahoud and how Dortmund plan not to extend his contract emerges as a pleasant surprise.
“I had a very open and honest conversation with Mo [Dahoud] last week. I informed him that we will not renew his contract in the summer. Mo has been with us for 6 years now, he’s a very good footballer and I really have a very high opinion of him on a sporting and personal level. Nevertheless, we decided to take this step”, Kehl confirmed, as quoted in the report.
Details about Dahoud to Leicester speculation
Keeping that in mind, Ruhr Nachrichten have reported that Leicester are now plotting a move for Borussia Dortmund lynchpin Mahmoud Dahoud, who was once described as a ‘great footballer’ by Marco Rose via BVB Buzz.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ men could face competition from European giants such as AC Milan and Napoli for the £65,000-a-week midfielder’s signature in the summer. But the report does state that the extent of their interest is unknown.
Brilliant Tielemans successor
Similarly to Youri Tielemans, Mahmoud Dahoud has been renowned for dictating games for Borussia Dortmund from the No.8 role, and on a free transfer, he would the perfect signing for Leicester.
At just 27 years of age and with a lot to prove in the game as well, the elegant midfielder’s pinpoint passing and technical excellent would make him an understated, yet astute pickup ahead of next season.
