Leicester should try to bring back Anthony Knockaert to the club if Riyad Mahrez leaves this summer.
Leicester City should line up a sensational bid to bring back Anthony Knockaert to the club. The Brighton and Hove Albion winger has been in scintillating form since returning to England.
The 25-year-old scored 15 goals and notched up nine assists last season to help secure the Seagulls promotion to the Premier League.
Leicester signed Knockaert in 2012, where he also guided the Foxes to England’s top tier, before being sold to Belgian Side Standard Liege in 2015. It was Mahrez who took Knockaert’s place in the Leicester side. The rest they say, is history.
Riyad Mahrez looks likely to depart Leicester City this summer
The Algerian has helped the Foxes to their first ever Premier League title and guided them to the Champions League quarter-finals. The 26-year-old has been linked with a big money move away from the King Power Stadium in recent months.
After finishing their last campaign in 12th, it was always likely that Mahrez would look to leave the club after getting a taste for Champions League football.
If Mahrez does leave the club then a replacement will need to be lined up, and Knockaert would fit the bill perfectly. Despite signing a contract extension in March, Knockaert could be tempted to moving back to the club he started his career in England with.
With the potential sale of Mahrez providing a large cash injection, the Foxes would be able to table a bid too good for the Premier League new boys to turn down.
Knockaert has already scored more goals and contributed with more assists for Brighton in 66 appearances than he did in his 106 Leicester games.
It may be a case of unfinished business for Knockaert and a case of Leicester not wanting Knockaert to be the one who got away.
