The 26-year-old is believed to be on the radar of several clubs including Leicester and Glasgow Rangers but the ex-Hoops boss should ensure he doesn’t go to Ibrox.

Brendan Rodgers’ switch from Celtic to Leicester City did not go down particularly well among some sections of the Hoops faithful, it has to be said.

However, if a talkSPORT report is to be believed, the Foxes and Rangers are both interested in a particular player this summer, and Rodgers could deal his old rivals another blow by bringing him to the King Power Stadium.

Josip Vukovic, a 26-year-old defensive midfielder who plays for Portuguese Primeira Liga club Maritimo, is thought to have been scouted by a number of clubs on these shores, with Rangers said to be keeping an eye out on him alongside Chelsea.

The report then claims that the Croatian also been scouted by Leicester, Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with a fee of around £4million thought to be enough to prise him away from the Portuguese side.

According to Whoscored, Vukovic has largely been deployed in central midfield by Maritimo manager Petit this term, with 15 appearances there and just one in defensive midfield, despite being listed as the latter by trade on Transfermarkt.

At Leicester could provide competition for Wilfred Ndidi, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans – a talkSPORT piece speculates how Rodgers could line up his Leicester charges based on some of his previous tactical setups.

Given Rodgers has pedigree not only in exciting football and winning silverware but also in being a great man manager, Leicester wouldn’t be a bad option for Vukovic to go for should he get the opportunity – whilst ensuring Gers don’t get their hands on him in the process.
