At this stage you’d be forgiven for thinking Brendan Rodgers had taken a sledgehammer to an entire House Of Mirrors before walking under 13 ladders on his way home.

Because the injury curse that threatened to derail Leicester City’s 2020/21 season has returned with a vengeance, a week-and-a-half before the new Premier League season gets under way.

Wesley Fofana snapped a fibula in last night’s 3-2 pre-season victory over Villarreal, meaning the FA Cup holders will be without their star centre-back for up to six months.

This, coupled with Wes Morgan’s retirement and Jonny Evans’ own fitness issues, means Wilfred Ndidi may be forced to drop into the back four – and not for the first time – during Saturday’s Community Shield clash with Manchester City.

According to The Athletic, a paucity of options at Rodgers’ disposal means Leicester have little choice but to dip into the transfer market with less than a month of the window remaining.

And if the Foxes fancy a quick fix – an affordable addition capable of adapting immediately to life at the King Power – the solution could be Ozan Kabak.

Leicester could now look to Ozan Kabak

In June, The Sun reported Kabak’s £18 million price tag – plus £4 million-a-year wage demands – looked to have put an end to Leicester’s interest in a man who impressed in fits and bursts during a loan spell at Liverpool last season.

But cash-strapped Schalke, desperate to get Kabak off the wage bill, are now giving serious consideration to terminating his contract, allowing the highly rated centre-half to move on for free.

Kabak, then, feels like an opportunity too good to miss. Young, talented and technically gifted, the Turkey international certainly looks like a classic Leicester City signing.

What is more, he knows the Premier League and already has an excellent understanding with Caglar Soyuncu following their time together in the Turkish camp during Euro 2020.

Here’s what some Leicester City supporters on Twitter had to say about the possibility of signing Kabak:
