Leicester City defender Jonny Evans has given his thoughts on upcoming opponents on Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of their Premier League meeting on Sunday, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
The 2019-20 Premier League season is finally under way, with the King Power Stadium hosting the 2015-16 champions and last season’s surprise package in one of three Sunday games.
Wolves, boasting numerous world-class players and led by the impressive Nuno Espirito Santo, finished seventh in the table last time out and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
The two Midlands sides locked horns fairly early on last season as well, with Evans making his Leicester debut in the 2-0 win over Wanderers on 18 August 2018 (BBC Sport).
Despite Wolves playing three days after a taxing journey to Armenia for their Europa League third qualifying round first-leg win over Pyunik, the Northern Ireland ace still anticipates a hotly contested game.
“They’re a good team,” Evans told LCFC TV, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “We played them quite early on last season. We realised then they are a very good side.
“Obviously, they’ve got the European competition, they’re doing a lot of travelling for that, but it’ll still be a very, very tough game for us at the weekend. I think they’re a team that, if we’re looking around us, they’re going to be in and around the same position as us this year and it’s up to us to see if we can push beyond that.”
According to BBC Sport, Ayoze Perez is expected to make his Leicester debut on Sunday, deadline-day signing Dennis Praet might also be involved, and as for Wolves, Jonny and Ruben Neves were rested against Pyunik on Thursday and are likely to start against Leicester.
