Leicester City have broken the club transfer record to sign Algerian striker Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon for £28 million.

The defending Premier League champions sealed the deal that brought Slimani to the King Power Stadium on transfer deadline day.
Slimani will add to Leicester’s impressive attacking options, complementing a strike force that already includes Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa, Shinji Okazaki, and Ahmed Musa.
A link-up with Riyad Mahrez may have played a part in Leicester’s decision to sign Slimani, as the two are international teammates.

Slimani has achieved impressive goalscoring feats throughout his career which started off in his home country with JSM Chéraga and CR Belouizdad, before moving to Sporting Lisbon in 2013. In Portugal, he scored 48 goals in 82 league appearances, while he has also scored 23 goals in 43 appearances for Algeria.
Foxes fans took to Twitter to welcome the signing, and reflect on a transfer window in which they have been able to strengthen their squad for Champions League football and, most importantly, hold on to most of their star players from last year – except for N’Golo Kante.

With the international break underway, Slimani will have some time to acclimatise to his new surroundings before the visit to Liverpool on 10 September. The Foxes sit in 9th place in the Premier League table.
