Aston Villa need to replace the injured Jonathan Kodjia but could Leicester City reject Ahmed Musa step into his shoes?

Reports in The Sun that Leicester City are planning a January clear-out could hardly have come at a better time for Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce’s Championship challengers received, in the manager’s own words, a ‘devastating’ blow on Tuesday as star striker Jonathan Kodjia was ruled out until the New Year after aggravating the broken ankle that kept him on the sidelines at the start of this season, per The Express.

With Ross McCormack out in Australia, Scott Hogan yet to find his form and Keinan Davis scoring just twice in 15 Championship games, the absence of a striker who netted 19 goals last season is provides major obstacle to Villa’s promotion hopes.

But the Hull Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Villa were hoping to lure Ahmed Musa from Leicester – and it appears that The Foxes will be more than willing to let their £16 million former CSKA attacker depart in January.

The Sun claims that new Leicester boss Claude Puel is keen to trim down his squad and Musa, who hasn’t played a single Premeir League appearance all season, is ripe for the cull.

And though the jet-heeled Nigerian previously stated that he would rather avoid dropping down into the Championship, beggars cannot be choosers. And Musa should realise that, with a void in Villa’s attack left by Kodjia, his rapid pace and dribbling ability means he could go from Leicester’s forgotten man to one of the most important players in Villa’s squad.

The 25-year-old is a wideman by trade but netted 13 times in 30 games for CSKA in 2015/16. And Musa could find goals, and chances, easier to come by in the division below.
