Amid the Sam Allardyce scandal, English football’s best feel good story has been somewhat lost in the shuffle despite it peaking to new heights.

Leicester City maintained their perfect Champions League record with a victory over Porto, who are regulars in the latter stages of the competition.

Porto not only won the Champions League in 2004, but have been ever presents since, and last year defeated Chelsea in the group stages.

Islam Slimani had been a thorn in their side while a Sporting Lisbon player, and Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri’s decision to start the striker up front was inspired.

The centre-forward netted the winner at the King Power Stadium to underline just how crucial a part he can play this season, and give Foxes fans hope for the coming campaign.

Domestically the season has been disappointing for Leicester, who began their title defence with a loss to Hull City.

They have lost 4-1 in matches against Liverpool and Manchester United, and this loss of form only makes their Champions League win over Porto more enthralling.

They won their previous game with a 3-0 away win over Club Brugges, and will fancy their chances of progression heading into matches home and away against Danish side FC Copenhagen.

Their achievement was buried on the back pages by Sam Allardyce’s indiscretions which saw him lose his job as England manager, but it deserves recognition.
