Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey could reportedly be on his way out of the club this summer and Leicester City should pounce.

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will feel his career has either stagnated or gone backwards this season after he barely featured in Rafa Benitez’s plans.

Therefore, it isn’t a surprise that the Mirror (print edition, page 82, Saturday, May 25, 2019), are reporting that Shelvey could leave Newcastle this summer if he’s not guaranteed more game time.

If Shelvey does opt to leave St James’ Park then he should make a switch to Leicester City and work under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers, who would bring the best out of him.

Rodgers likes his midfield players to dictate the game, move the ball forward and his team, in general, to play the ball out from the back, whereas as Newcastle’s man in charge focuses on the more defensive side of the game, which doesn’t suit Shelvey.

Added with that, Jamie Vardy is their main striker and he thrives on balls that are played to him over the top, something Shelvey can do with ease.

Furthermore, when comparing Rodgers to Benitez, the former likes to stick more attacking players into his midfield. Another reason why Shelvey would thrive at the King Power Stadium.

At this moment in time, Shelvey is still a Newcastle player, but given the rise of Sean Longstaff this season, it will be a surprise to see Shelvey break into the first XI next term.

Therefore, if the former England international does leave then it won’t surprise many, but given his talents and what he can provide, he’ll still be an asset to many Premier League teams.

When Newcastle were a Championship club, they signed Shelvey from Swansea City for a fee of £12 million [BBC Sport] and he played a major part in their instant return back to the top-flight.
