Newcastle United have made enquiries about Leicester City striker Islam Slimani in recent times.

Newcastle have made enquiries over the Algerian international’s availability ahead of the transfer window, and Leicester now believe that Rafael Benitez’s side are going to make an offer.
Newcastle are looking for a striker, as they look to improve their forward options.

The likes of Dwight Gayle, Joselu and Aleksandar Mitrovic have all struggled for goals at St. James’ Park this season, and Slimani may be seen as an upgrade by Benitez.
Slimani has actually struggled at Leicester ever since he signed back in 2016.
Slimani has seven goals in 33 Premier League appearances, and he has not hit the back of the net at all in the top flight this season.

Slimani has shown his scoring prowess in the League Cup though, where he has netted four times in three games.
Leicester paid £30 million to sign Slimani 18 months ago, according to the Guardian, and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will have the budget to prise the 29-year-old away from the King Power Stadium.
