Monaco midfielder Tielemans could reportedly leave the Ligue 1 strugglers to join 2016 Premier League champions Leicester this month.

Leicester City could take advantage of Monaco’s ongoing crisis this month with Youri Tielemans potentially on his way to the King Power Stadium.

The Telegraph reported on Monday that The Foxes were hoping to snap up the Belgian international midfielder for a fee of around £22 million with Portuguese flop Andre Silva potentially going in the other direction.

Tielemans, a former Anderlecht wonderkid who has scored five times in 20 Ligue 1 games for relegation-threatened Monaco this season, is understood to be open to a move to England as he has a strained relationship with manager Leonardo Jardim, who made a shock return to the Principality club over the weekend.

And, in quotes reported by The Mirror (29 January, page 51), Leicester boss Claude Puel has seemingly given Tielemans’ signing the green light.

“Youri is 21, a good player with good attributes,” said Puel, himself a former Monaco coach.

According to Nieuwsblad, Manchester United, AC Milan and Barcelona are also keen on the two-time Belgian Young Player of the Year.

L’Equipe, meanwhile, reported on Tuesday that Newcastle United are planning a big-money bid despite the lack of activity at St James’ Park during the last few weeks.
