Leicester City defender Danny Simpson has claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Diogo Jota was “lucky” when he netted the winner in the 4-3 win over the Foxes last Saturday.

The weekend’s early Premier League kickoff saw Wolves score twice inside the opening 15 minutes through Jota and Ryan Bennett, before the Foxes struck back through Demarai Gray and a Conor Coady own goal.

Jota then grabbed his second, only for Leicester captain Wes Morgan to equalise with three minutes left, but deep into injury time, the 22-year-old Portuguese got on the end of Raul Jimenez’s delivery to seal his hat-trick.

The final goal, while legal, proved controversial and called for some reviews on the offside law as Jota was yards offside when Ruben Neves sent the ball out to Jimenez.

However, by the time the latter crossed, the eventual goalscorer was behind the ball and onside in the second phase of the counter attack.

Simpson told the Leicester Mercury after the game: “The lad has been offside and he probably can’t believe his luck. I don’t think it was planned.

“He was coming back from the move before. I don’t think he was being clever, I think he was probably tired and just couldn’t get back onside and it came from nowhere.”

At the end of matchday 23, Leicester sit ninth in the table on 31 points, while Wolves are eighth in the standings on 32 points.
