Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has told Thursday’s press conference – as per the club’s YouTube – that it was “disappointing” to see Thomas Tuchel sacked by Chelsea earlier this week, as the Blues suffered a third loss in seven.

Tuchel’s Chelsea had stuttered during the early stages of the season. Premier League defeats to Leeds and Southampton, failing to hold on to a win over Tottenham. Then the 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night.

It is widely believed that it is not just the results on the pitch, but his relationship with Todd Boehly that has seen the exit of the German boss. The two were at odds at times over the summer when it comes to certain players coming in.

Rodgers, who began his coaching career at Chelsea and was linked with a return to replace Tuchel, gave his verdict. He says he was “disappointed” to see Tuchel go. But, he made it clear he is not privy to things going on behind the scenes.

“He’s had a successful 18 months. Nine months ago they were the world’s best team. Football moves quickly, I’m not privy to what goes on behind the scenes but it is disappointing. Always disappointing when a manager loses his job.”

It is a surprise but as Rodgers says, football moves quickly. The issue is that Boehly has immediately given himself the tag of being as ruthless as his predecessor Roman Abramovich. Graham Potter is seen as taking a risk because of that.

But Boehly, who paid around £4.25billion to take over at Chelsea, is in control and entitled to do what he wants to do. Especially, given that outlay. If he and a manager do not get on, then a change is clearly going to make sense.
