Darren Bent has said on talkSPORT that Newcastle United fans will be happy if PIF appoint Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as their new manager.

The former Sunderland striker believes that Rangers manager Gerrard has done well at the Gers and is now ready for the role at Newcastle.

Bent said on talkSPORT: “It’s a strange one in terms of experience, but he has done a fantastic job at Rangers last year.

“He’s a Premier League legend, he is on the up, he is quite new in his managerial career, but he has had success already. I think the Newcastle fans will be happy with that.”

Steven Gerrard to Newcastle rumour

An investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, have taken over Newcastle from Mike Ashley.

The Telegraph have reported that the new Newcastle owners will sack current manager Steve Bruce in a matter of days.

The Daily Mail have reported that Liverpool legend Gerrard is among the candidates to replace Bruce, and that the Englishman is intrigued by the job at Newcastle.

Would Steven Gerrard be good for Newcastle?

Gerrard has been superb for Rangers over the years and has progressed as a manager.

The 41-year-old won the Scottish Premiership title with the Gers last season.

Rangers also went the entire season unbeaten and reached as far as the Europa League Round of 16.

Gerrard is quite a young manager and is still learning, but he will know everything about Newcastle and the fans.

The former England international midfielder would not be a bad appointment for Newcastle.
