Former Tottenham Hotspur talent Dennis Cirkin could fire Sunderland to the Championship playoffs after a brace against West Bromwich Albion.

The battle for places in the Championship’s top six is truly unbelievable.

Luton Town and Middlesbrough have their spots booked but the final two spaces are up for grabs.

Just four points separate fifth-placed Coventry City and 12th-placed Swansea City.

Sunderland have now rocketed themselves into sixth place having beaten ninth-placed West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

The hero of the day was left back Dennis Cirkin, who scored twice to help Sunderland come from a goal down to win 2-1.

Cirkin levelled it up with a bullet header into the top corner of the net.

The 21-year-old won it with fine finish after a marauding run up the left flank, giving Sunderland hope of a Premier League return.

Tottenham may well be watching Dennis Cirkin

Cirkin has long been tipped for a bright future.

The Ireland-born left back – who has chosen to play for the England youth teams – was a top prospect in the Tottenham ranks.

Jose Mourinho certainly liked Cirkin but Tottenham chose to sell him to Sunderland back in the summer of 2021.

Interestingly though, Tottenham allegedly still like Cirkin and may even try to bring him back to North London.

The Sun reported in October that Tottenham are tracking Cirkin ahead of potentially moving to re-sign him.

It has also been reported that Tottenham hold a £6million buy-back clause in Cirkin’s contract, valid until the summer of 2024.

That certainly leaves the door open for Cirkin to make a return to Spurs one day and more performances like his two-goal display on Sunday would surely attract Tottenham interest.

Destiny Udogie’s arrival this summer complicates matters a little as Spurs may not want to add another young left back, but you can be sure they paid close attention to Cirkin’s performance against West Brom.
