Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are reportedly looking for a new left-back in the summer transfer window, and a defender they sold back in 2019 who plays in that role, Nacho Monreal, is now available.

Former Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal becomes free agent

Monreal joined Arsenal from Malaga in January 2013 and made 187 appearances in the Premier League for the Gunners, scoring seven goals in the process.

The 36-year-old, who can also play as a central defender, moved to La Liga club Real Sociedad in the summer of 2019.

Sociedad reportedly paid Arsenal £225,000 as transfer fee for the Spanish defender.

Unai Emery was the head coach of Arsenal at the time.

Monreal is out of contract at Sociedad this summer, and the La Liga outfit have announced that the former Arsenal left-back will not be handed a new deal.

Gunners want a new left-back

Interestingly, Arsenal are looking for a new left-back this summer.

TMW reported this week that the Gunners have made a bid for Getate and Uruguay international left-back Mathias Olivera.

Kieran Tierney is the first-choice left-back at Arsenal, but the Scotland international has had injury problems.

Nuno Tavares is the back-up left-back at the Gunners, but he has not always impressed.
