Halme impressed for Leeds Under-23 side against Nottingham Forest on Monday.
Leeds United youngster Aapo Halme’s impressive performances for the Whites’ Under-23 side has seen him earn a call-up to Finland’s Under-21 side for the first time.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who joined Leeds in January 2018 from Finnish giants HJK Helsinki after making 36 senior appearances back in his home country, is a consistent member of Carlos Corberan’s reserve side.
He starred at centre-back alongside Pascal Struijk against Nottingham Forest’s second string on Monday, as Leeds recorded a comfortable 2-0 win that also saw Stuart Dallas, Lewis Baker, Jamal Blackman and Tom Pearce impress.
Finland announced their squad on Twitter including defender Halme, who have also included Brighton’s Hugo Keto, QPR’s Nicholas Hamalainen and Dundee’s Benjamin Kallman.
Halme is yet to make a senior appearance for the Whites, with Marcelo Bielsa preferring the likes of Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson, Gaetano Berardi, Conor Shaughnessy and even Luke Ayling at centre-back.
The towering defender, who stands at a lofty 6ft 4in, has plenty of time to prove his worth at Leeds, though, after signing a contract that will see him remain on the books until the summer of 2022.
