Leeds linked El-Mhanni is reportedly closing on a move to Belgium.
Leeds United were linked with attacker Yasin Ben El-Mhanni throughout the summer transfer window following the 22-year-old’s exit from Newcastle United, but they could be set to miss out.
Goal claimed Leeds were interested in landing the fleet-footed star this summer, as well as Heerenveen, Amiens and Saint-Etienne while training with Leeds’ league competitors Brentford.
But now, The Sun claim Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp are interested in signing the youngster, who only managed two senior appearances for Rafa Benitez’s side during his time on Tyneside.
It is also claimed that Standard Liege are in talks to land El-Mhanni, while St. Etienne remain interested but are behind in the race to sign the former Chelsea star with the two Belgian sides best placed.
But with El-Mhanni available on a free transfer and the likes of Gjanni Alioski and Stuart Dallas only showing glimpses of game-changing quality on the odd occasion, a move to land the free agent is too good to turn down.
The attacker boasts enough quality to shine in the Championship, and certainly has the potential to impress in the Premier League. On a free transfer, he is simply too good to ignore.
It should convince Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa to move for El-Mhanni before it is too late, with his technical abilities and vision likely to strike fear into Championship defences.
The Argentine manager would be foolish not to try and sign El-Mhanni ahead of the Belgians, as he could provide the difference between finishing in the top six or in mid table.
