Leeds United are reportedly targeting Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom.
Leeds United’s play-off hopes are all but dead after a miserable 2018, and that means manager Paul Heckingbottom may already be making plans for the summer transfer window.
With just the one win since the turn of the year, Leeds sit 12 points off the play-offs and stand virtually no chance of ending up in the top six, leading Heckingbottom to plan for next season.
Heckingbottom will hope for a number of new signings this summer, and that may lead him to look to players he has already worked with previously, as the Yorkshire Evening Post claim he wants to reunite with Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom.
Yiadom, 26, joined the Tykes from Barnet in 2016, and has produced superb displays for Barnsley in the Championship, whilst he has also captained the side this season.
A key player under Heckingbottom, right back Yiadom is out of contract this summer, and it’s believed that the Leeds boss is pursuing a reunion with the Ghanaian international in a bid to boost his Leeds squad.
That would see Yiadom finally make a move to West Yorkshire, given that he saw a move to Huddersfield Town strangely fall through last summer, with limited details over the reasoning.
Sky Sports carried quotes from Huddersfield boss David Wagner back in August claiming that the deal had collapsed, with the Terriers allegedly pulling out of the deal before signing Florian Hadergjonaj instead.
Whether it was a medical or a financial issue, or simply that Huddersfield preferred Hadergjonaj, Leeds will now hope to succeed where Huddersfield failed in getting a deal over the line for Yiadom, and reuniting with Heckingbottom should make a move to West Yorkshire very appealing this time around for the defender.
