Michael Dawson has claimed that whoever signs Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka during the January transfer window, then they are ‘lucky’ amid rumours Leeds United and West Ham United want him.

Since the return of domestic football after the World Cup break, Wan-Bissaka has started both of Manchester United’s games – Erik ten Hag’s side win over Burnley in the League Cup, before they beat Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Despite this, there are rumours suggesting that the 25-year-old could be headed for the exit door when the transfer window re-opens, Leeds, Wolves, West Ham and Crystal Palace are all eyeing the £50 million man.

All the clubs mentioned could do with Wan-Bissaka’s services, so he won’t be short of offers when the negotiations start.

From a defensive aspect, Wan-Bissaka has always proven his worth, but as former Spurs defender Michael Dawson pointed out, it’s from an attacking sense where the questions have been raised, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports News.

“He has had a lot of criticism since he has gone to Manchester United,” said Dawson. “When he left Crystal Palace for big money, we knew he could defend.

“One-v-one is magnificent. Tackling magnificent. Could he do it with the ball in possession? That was the question mark. When you go to Manchester United, you need to be the overall player and he was questioned at that.

“Wan-Bissaka is being linked here, there and everywhere. Whoever gets him, I think they will be lucky.”

SHOULD WAN-BISSAKA LEAVE OLD TRAFFORD?

It has to be pointed out that Wan-Bissaka has performed very well during these last two games and he is putting up a fight.

From the player’s perspective, it’s understandable if he wanted to stay and fight for his place, but he needs to start playing on a regular basis again.

Whether it’s joining Jesse Marsch’s Leeds, who are trying to stay away from danger or heading to West Ham who want to push for Europe again, or even returning to Crystal Palace.

All of those clubs would be healthy destinations for Wan-Bissaka, they would provide him with the minutes needed and he would vastly improve them from a defensive aspect.
