Leeds United face a crucial summer following their fantastic campaign in the Championship.

After a sensational season in the Championship, Leeds will know that the upcoming summer window will be crucial whichever division they are in next season, and showing some ambition could be extremely important.

One player who was linked with a move to Elland Road during the January transfer window who should perhaps be on Leeds’ radar this summer is Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero.

The Telegraph suggested that the Whites may be one of the clubs interested in handing the 27-year-old a chance away from the Liberty Stadium after a difficult time with the Swans.

Of course, given the events of this season, the idea of Leeds handing a bright, but inconsistent wide-man from Swansea the chance to join on loan may put a large portion of fans off given what has happened since Mo Barrow arrived in January.

Barrow has shown little to suggest that he deserves to be above the likes of Hadi Sacko and Alfonso Pedraza in the pecking order since moving to Leeds with no goals and no assists coming in his five appearances – admittedly, four of which have come from the bench.

However, Montero has arguably shown more during his time in the top flight than Barrow has so may perhaps be worth taking a gamble on, especially as easily his best performance for the club came when Monk was in the dugout.

The opening game of the 2015/16 season saw Montero destroy a Chelsea defence that had won the title at a canter the previous year. And while that performance came too long ago for the Ecuadoran’s current form to be defended, Monk may perhaps fancy his chances of bringing the best out of him once again.

With Sacko, Barrow and Pedraza all on loan, Leeds may have a situation this summer where they need to bolster their wide options significantly.

And although Barrow’s spell may put fans off a deal for Montero, Leeds arguably took gambles when they signed Rob Green, Luke Ayling, Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson last year, so it may just be that taking a chance on Montero could prove as astute a piece of business as all of those deals did.
