Leeds United are interested in signing Freddie Woodman from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.
What’s the story?
The Yorkshire Evening Post are reporting that Leeds are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper following the departure of Kiko Casilla to Elche on a loan deal.
Leeds Director of Football, Victor Orta, has three goalkeepers on his shortlist.
Dani Cardenas, 24, of Levante, 20-year-old Kristoffer Klaesson of Valerenga, and Newcastle’s Woodman, 24, are the ones Orta is looking at.
Freddie Woodman to Leeds United?
Illan Meslier is the first-choice goalkeeper at Leeds, and that is unlikely to change, at least at the start of next season.
The 21-year-old was ahead of former Real Madrid goalkeeper Casilla in the pecking order last season.
That shows just how good the Frenchman is.
However, Leeds do need strong competition between the posts.

Woodman would be a good signing for Leeds.
The 24-year-old was a regular for Swansea City in the Championship for the past two seasons during his loan spell at the Liberty Stadium.
Swansea head coach Steve Cooper described the English goalkeeper as “brilliant” on the club’s official website in March 2021.
The Chronicle reported last month that Newcastle value Woodman at £10 million.
That is certainly affordable for Leeds.
The problem that Leeds could face in signing Woodman is that the goalkeeper himself might not be willing to move, knowing that he would have to wait for Meslier to make mistakes to get his chance.
